বঙ্গলিপি (BonGoLipi)

Currently I, Sambit Basu, manage the Bongolipi project. Arijit Mukherjee is the other developer of the project. The project code is hosted on SourceForge.net.

Bongolipi started as a personal project in 1997. Originally it was written in Visual Basic and was table driven. I named it Wintrans.

Later when I started learning Java, I decided to port Wintrans into Java, mainly to expedite my learning as well as making it available on non-Windows platform.

After writing the workable code I deployed it on my personal website. Then it basically went into hibernation for seven years. I played with the code on-and-off with no specific goal.

Finally, last year I decided to make it open-source and make it more inclusive.
